For Apprentices (Individuals)
Apprenticeship Wages:
You will earn a wage while training. The minimum apprenticeship wage (as of 2024) is £6.40 per hour for apprentices under 19 or in their first year. After that, you’re entitled to the National Minimum Wage for your age group.
Government-Funded Training:
If you’re aged 16-24, the government covers most or all of the training costs. If you’re 25+, funding may be available depending on the apprenticeship and employer.
For Employers
Apprenticeship Levy:
Large employers (payroll over £3 million) pay into the levy and can use these funds to cover training costs.
Government Co-Funding :
For non-levy-paying employers, the government funds 95% of the training costs, with the employer contributing 5%.
Incentives for Hiring Apprentices:
£1,000 grants for hiring 16-18-year-olds or 19-24-year-olds with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
